How to delete your Telegram account
Deletion is permanent: your messages and contacts are erased. If you're sure, here is the official way.
Delete it now from the official site
- Open my.telegram.org/deactivate.
- Enter your number in international format — the code arrives inside Telegram, not by SMS.
- Enter the code, give a reason if you like, and confirm.
Automatic deletion when inactive
If you don't open Telegram for 18 months, the account is deleted automatically. Change the period in Settings → Privacy and Security → Delete my account if away for.
Before you delete
- Export important chats with Telegram Desktop: Settings → Advanced → Export Telegram data.
- If you own channels or groups, transfer ownership to someone you trust.
- Your Stars balance and Premium subscription are lost with the account.
FAQ
Can I undo the deletion?
No. It's permanent; signing up with the same number later starts a new, empty account.
